SmartBe3 collaborated with a major retail chain to streamline monitoring across 1500+ stores. By unifying tools, implementing dynamic SLAs, and conducting training, the project reduced costs, centralized monitoring, and boosted operational efficiency. The partnership optimized operations and enhanced expertise company-wide.
Overview
SmartBe3 collaborated with a prominent retail giant, which boasts a vast network of over 1500 stores across five countries. The project's core focus was on monitoring all links between the branches and the primary data centers. The company faced challenges stemming from the use of multiple monitoring tools for infrastructure and links (Nagios, Zabbix, Elastic, Grafana). The project aimed to streamline and unify these tools into a singular monitoring platform, establishing dynamic SLAs based on days of the week and seasonal variations. Additionally, the initiative involved training and upskilling architecture, infrastructure, and NOC personnel.
Challenges
Diverse Monitoring Tools:
  • The company grappled with the use of multiple monitoring tools for infrastructure and links, resulting in operational complexity.
Unoptimized SLAs:
  • The existing SLAs lacked flexibility, not adapting to variations in days of the week and different seasons.
Training and Knowledge Gaps:
  • There was a need to enhance the knowledge and capabilities of architecture, infrastructure, and NOC personnel.
Solutions
Unified Monitoring Platform:

  • SmartBe3 spearheaded the unification of monitoring tools, consolidating them into a single platform for streamlined operations.
Dynamic SLAs:

  • Dynamic SLAs were introduced, tailoring performance expectations based on specific days of the week and seasonal fluctuations.
Training and Upskilling:
  • A comprehensive training program was conducted to enhance the knowledge and skills of architecture, infrastructure, and NOC teams.
Results
Cost Reduction:
  • The consolidation of monitoring tools resulted in a reduction of costs associated with managing multiple tools.
Centralized Monitoring:
  • The company achieved a centralized monitoring system, simplifying operational oversight and reducing administrative efforts associated with managing multiple contracts.
Efficiency Gains:
  • Time spent on administrative tasks related to the management of various contracts was significantly reduced, leading to enhanced operational efficiency.
Improved Knowledge Base:
  • The training initiatives contributed to an improvement in know-how and expertise among architecture, infrastructure, and NOC personnel.
The collaboration between SmartBe3 and the retail company resulted in a more streamlined and efficient monitoring system, aligning SLAs with business dynamics and optimizing operational costs. The project not only centralized monitoring but also contributed to knowledge enhancement and operational efficiency across the organization.
